Kantonsschule Rychenberg Winterthur

«We enhance the environment.»

As early as 1995, the first photovoltaic system on the roof of the Rychenberg school building produced electricity: responsible use of the resources of our living environment has a long tradition at our school. The founding of the «Rysolar Plus» co-operative, numerous high school theses, the participation of pupils in the climate community, the activities of the climate group and our travel regulations are evidence of an in-depth examination of energy, mobility, biodiversity and waste.

We are now on our way to becoming a «climate school» and are further increasing our awareness of our natural resources. Rychenberg residents are taking responsibility and gaining confidence in a future worth living thanks to sustainable projects.

We look forward to our collective commitment!

Rector KRW

Local voices

«Renewable energy is the future! The longer we wait with the energy transition, the more it will cost us.»

Peter Lippuner / Former KRW, co-founder of solar plant Rysolar, former president of NGW

«Knowledge, exchange and concrete experience are the driving forces that encourage us to act for an environmentally friendly future. It is particularly important for me that we realise that climate protection and sustainability are not only necessary, but can also be exciting and fun. Schools can and should play a central role here – just as Rychenberg does. Keep it up!»

Ursina Dorer / Former KRW, Head of Communications at Solarify

«Today’s children and teenagers will feel the consequences of climate change the most. This makes it all the more important that they actively contribute to a climate-friendly future: by raising their voices, with commitment and concrete activities.»

Myriam Steinemann / Former KRW, Head of Division INFRAS

«The climate and biodiversity crisis is an existential challenge that cannot be tackled by either whitewashing or doom and gloom, but only through decisive, collective action. Schools can play an important role in this by making their own operations climate-friendly and supporting their pupils in making the necessary changes. I very much welcome Rychenberg Cantonal School’s commitment to becoming a climate school and wish it great success.»

Thomas Vellacott / Former KRW, Managing Director of WWF Switzerland
